Nineteenth Annual New Works Festival

Long Beach Playhouse is proud to announce its Nineteenth Annual New Works Festival, scheduled for the Spring of 2009. The Playhouse’s Literary Department is seeking unpublished, unproduced full-length plays for its Festival. Four plays will be selected to be presented in the Playhouse Studio Theatre as staged readings in March, April, May and June.

All four readings will be presented free of charge to the public. The audience will have the opportunity to discuss the script with the playwright, director and actors. The readings will receive written critiques by professional reviewers and a videotape will be provided to the playwright.

Winning Playwrights receive an honorarium of $100.

Submissions to the New Works Festival will be accepted throughout the year. Scripts received during the twelve-month period ending September 30 will be considered for the Festival the following spring.

You may call the Playhouse for a submission form or click on the links at the bottom of this page for a .PDF or Word copy. All plays must be accompanied by:
    1. submission form
    2. $10 reading fee
    3. brief play synopsis
    4. complete character breakdown

…and (if play is to be returned to the playwright) a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
