YOUTH WORKSHOP IN ACTING, MUSIC AND DANCE
Ages 7 thru 16
 

    The Playhouse Youth Workshop is designed to develop creative abilities through Acting, Music, and Dance. Acting classes include theatre games, improvisation and scene study. Dance classes include awareness of shape, level, rhythm, movement and musical comedy performance. Music classes include vocal techniques for projection and enunciation as well as song preparation. Parents and friends are invited to the last day of the workshop to see a demonstration of techniques learned in class.

    Schedule of Classes
    Classes will be held June 25 through July 27 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. No class on July 4th.

    Enrollment
    Enrollment is limited to 50 students with a ratio of 16 students per teacher. Each day students will have an hour of music, and hour of dance and an hour of acting with professional instructors. All applications will be processed according to the date received. Due to demand please do not enroll your children if they cannot commit to the full 5 weeks of the workshops.

INSTRUCTORS:
  Terra Taylor Knutson—Acting
    Terra is passionate about teaching. Terra has worked with several theatres and educational outreach programs over the years to help strengthen acting skills as well as enhance self-confidence and esteem through the arts. A recent resident of Long Beach, Terra has spent the last 10 years teaching and performing all over from Los Angeles and Orange Counties to Boulder Colorado and Boston Mass. As a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder BFA program, she hosted audition and monologue coaching sessions and worked as an Assistant to the Instructor for Beginning Acting classes. She has also acted as vocal and physical coach for numerous children' productions and volunteered with the Orange County-based MYART program. As an actress, Terra has worked steadily since making her debut as Mrs. Rabbit at 5, and has countless incredible memories including her turn as Miss. La Lune in the LBPH's production of I Killed The Count which earned her an Ethel Case Award Nomination. Terra is thrilled to be back to the LBPH Summer Educational Outreach Workshops for a second year!
  Victoria Baker—Dance
    Victoria began studying dance at 5 yrs. She has had some very extensive training for a person of her age. She studied classical dance with some excellent teachers such as Gelsey Kirkland, Edward Vilella, and Anton Labuschagne. She has danced with two companies, Los Angeles Classical Ballet and the Metropolitan Ballet Company. She traveled with the latter to Italy for the Grand Prix of Dance Italia in 2002. Her jazz/hip-hop background comes from extensive training with teachers like Tina D’Amato, T.J. Espinoza and Tim Stevenson. She has also studied acting and singing with The Metropolitan Arts Conservatory appearing in lead roles in Jungle Book and A Day in the Life of Charlie Brown. She is currently appearing in the Crystal Cathedral’s production of The Glory of Easter. She is the captain and a Soloist on the Mater Dei Varsity Dance Team and has been on the team for 3 years. This year she has received many awards in competitions with her High School including Nationals in Orlando, Florida, Miss Dance/Drill Team California in Redondo Beach and Northern Cal State Championships in San Francisco.
Andrew Zacharias —Music
  Originally from Northern California, Andy began acting, singing and playing music in theaters in the Sacramento and Davis areas. In 1998 he moved to Long Beach and received his bachelors in music from Long Beach State in 2002. In the time he has lived in Southern California, Andy has participated in a wide range of activities, performing different types of music including, classical, jazz, rock, carribean steel drum, and also numerous other projects including acting, and musical theater. Currently, he teaches music at Cypress College and teaches private lessons in Long Beach and parts of Orange County in bass, guitar, piano, and voice, and for the past year has been a member of the Olio Theater Company with Tera and Victoria.
