on February 21, 2005. The Playhouse was also nominated for Outstanding
Achievement in Costume Design for Donna Fritsche, Best Set Design for
Vincent Roca. |

| Hattie, by William Blinn, was premiered at the Studio Theatre on June 4, 2004 and was a finalist of the Playhouse New Works Festival the prior season. A play with music, Hattie examines the life of Hattie McDaniel, America’s first Black Oscar winner, during that when she fought the role of “Mammy” in “Gone With the Wind” and the subsequent turmoil this event brought into her life. Playwright, William Blinn has worked the better part of the past three decades as a writer and producer in the television industry. He is the recipient of multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Writers Guild Awards for such presentations as Brian’s Song, Roots, and Fame, among others. Most recently Mr. Blinn produced the firm version of Starsky & Hutch. |

It was a night filled with anticipation as the 140 plus guests arrived for the 46th Annual Ethel Case Acting Awards at the Petroleum Club Sunday evening October 27th. Long Beach Playhouse Trustee, Eleanor Armstrong, hosted the event as she greeted the eager crowd of actors and patrons elegantly dressed in evening gowns and tuxedos. Lucy Daggett, Playhouse Trustee Secretary, acted as Mistress of Ceremonies. As guests arrived, excitement and sentiment filled the air as directors, actors and production staff were honored for their accomplishments for the 2001-2002 Mainstage season of plays. | |
