| To nurture and cultivate new and traditional audiences,
as well as emerging and established artists: encourage the participation
of all interested individuals: maintain a strong theatre training program
and produce quality theatre which includes traditional plays and classics,
new works and thought-provoking, socially significant productions, and
is accessible to our socially and economically diverse community. |

Established in 1929, the Long Beach Playhouse
is a landmark in the City of Long Beach. |
| Located at 5021 East Anaheim Street (across
from Recreation Park), the Playhouse produces 16 shows annually with
a new play or musical every three weeks on the The Mainstage, or upstairs
in the Studio Theatre. Long Beach’s flagship professional theatre
cuts across age, gender, ethnic, and cultural boundaries while being
entirely self-supporting through ticket sales and membership support. |

| Two separate theatres |

The Mainstage has
a thrust stage with horseshoe seating for 200 on three sides. Contemporary
and classic dramas, comedies are presented on the Mainstage each season.
The Studio Theatre,
a professional 98-seat Equity Theatre, has a proscenium stage on which
experimental and adult-oriented works are performed along with traditional
plays and musicals. |

Approximately 34,000 persons attend the Playhouse
productions annually.
The excellent quality of Playhouse productions is widely recognized throughout
Southern California and both the Mainstage and Studio Theatres consistently
receive awards and critical acclaim. Season subscriptions are available
for both theatres.
